Our camp directors travel across the US each winter to meet with current and prospective campers. These visits are also a great opportunity to reconnect with alumni in various cities. Be sure to register in the Alumni Directory and follow us on Facebook for news about when we may be in a city near you.
In 2009, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of Camp Thunderbird for Girls. On a weekend in mid-August, Alumnae of all ages journeyed to the Northwoods to relive their camp days and reconnect with old friends. The weather for the first part of the weekend was absolutely gorgeous and everyone took advantage down at the waterfront, brushing up on their canoeing, sailing and waterskiing skills. Alums also rode horses, practiced their aim at Riflery and Archery, and tie-dyed groovy t-shirts at Arts & Crafts. We got a real Minnesota thunderstorm during the second part of the weekend and had a great time in the lodge playing a spirited game of Dutch Auction and enjoying delicious Paul Bunyan sundaes. Meals were never dull, as alums reached back into their repertoire and sang every camp song they could think of! We closed out the weekend with a wonderful Final Banquet and everyone shared their favorite camp memories as well as heartfelt messages to Carol & Tres. During our closing Council Fire later that night there was not a dry eye in the house! Thanks so much to everyone who attended!! We hope to see you again at the 50th in 2019! Can’t wait til then? Join us at Family Camp this August!
In 2006, Boys Camp celebrated its 60th Anniversary. We had more than 100 alums join us for a wonderful weekend up North! The celebration began on Friday evening with dinner in the camp lodge followed by "movie night". Moe brought out the projector and reels along with the video tapes/monitor for an evening of nostalgia. The next night, we had a beautiful Minnesota evening for a traditional "Council Fire" and ended the weekend with a "Final banquet", complete with grasshopper pie. Yum! In between we had 3 glorious days at camp to sail, canoe, swim, waterski, and do whatever else our hearts desired. Every activity was open! We sat by the lake, ate s’mores, and hung out with old camp friends. It was exactly how we remembered it! Ahh, life at camp. It doesn’t get better than that! Our next reunion weekend will be the Boys Camp 70th Anniversary in 2016! Stay tuned for more info! Can't wait til then? Join us at Family Camp this August!
